Vacation Snapshots

But first a quick training recap. My week started off great: three easy runs ranging from 5 to 10 miles. I took a rest day on Thursday so I could have fresh legs for Friday’s workout: 6 miles at goal pace (7:33 average pace, just under my goal of 7:37). Unfortunately the next morning my hamstrings were painfully tight. I took an extra rest day and focused on light stretching and foam rolling. On Sunday my hamstrings felt significantly better but still too tight for running resulting in a third rest day this week.

I’ve already recapped the race at Crater Lake, but we actually spent some time exploring the national park the night before the race. Here are some shots of Crater Lake from our sunset hike up The Watchman.

The next day, after the race, we hiked down to the lake and took a boat out to that island (Wizard Island).

And then we hiked up the summit of Wizard Island. And then back down Wizard Island and finally back up the rim. All on the same day as the race. My legs were shot the next day!

We also spent a day exploring the Columbia River Gorge, home to Oregon’s most visited attraction, Multnomah Falls.

Another day was spent touring the coast.

And just so you don’t get the wrong idea, the days between all the hiking and outdoorsy adventures were filled with breweries, wine tastings, and general laziness. Oh and there were donuts. Lots of donuts.

  1. Looks awesome! So glad you had a good time and hopefully came back to real life feeling refreshed. I take it those donuts won’t be part of your next donut dash? 🙂

    • Haha they were so sugary I could barely make it through one donut by myself, let alone 5 of them. But Voodoo does have a “challenge donut” that you get for free if you can eat it in 80 seconds. It is the size of 6 donuts…definitely not something I could manage.

    • During the vacation I kept thinking how great it was to end summer with a vacation and then have another two weeks off before classes started. And then I would remember that I work full time and I definitely didn’t have another two weeks off once we got home.
